Yes, I've heard that, and I should disclose that I switched from Sonar 4-a power MIDI app to be sure-to Reaper, which I'm also sure is more MIDI-embryonic than PT, though capable enough for me, and a great host/chainer app for VSTi's. MIDI in PT has been getting better and better with each release since 6.7 or so, and is certainly perfectly usable for everyday MIDI duties under 7.3 - I'll bet 7.4 is even better, There's probably an article somewhere in there regarding the decision and conversion. My clients are expecting me to be able to do certain things, and while expensive, the HD system will give me a LOT of increased capabilities over my current 002 LE / MPT setup. But alas, there ARE things I want to be able to do and things / features I really could use (more I/O, ADC, HD plug ins such as the Eventide Anthology II bundle, etc.) that I can't easily accomplish on my LE system, and so I will be biting the big bullet and getting a HD system before the end of the year. I've gotten a lot of stuff done with my Digi 002.

Heck, the Digi hardware has so far always worked well with different apps using the ASIO drivers for me.Īs far as LE vs HD, I think you can do a very good recording on LE, and there are a lot of tools there to get the job done. In terms of hardware, I had a LOT of hardware / software conflicts with other DAW applications and hardware interfaces from different companies in the past before going to PT, and zero since switching over. IIRC, one of Digidesign's reasons for the proprietary hardware and for the track count limitations is to guarantee reliability, as long as the purchaser's computer meets the specs on their compatibility docs page.
